Health and wellbeing coaches support people to increase their ability to self-manage, motivation levels and commitment to change their lifestyle. They are experts in behaviour change and focus on improving health related outcomes by working with people to set personalised goals and change their behaviours. They work with people with physical and/or mental health conditions and those at risk of developing them.
In February 2024, a group of Health and Wellbeing Coaches working in the Black Country asked their local Integrated Care Board for support with measuring the impact of their work. Interest in this project quickly grew, with Health and Wellbeing Coaches across England contributing their ideas and expertise through workshops, forum discussions, and other online conversations.
The project is focused on Health and Wellbeing Coaches working for NHS-funded Primary Care Networks, but the model and framework we are building is designed to be generic and relevant to coaches working in other parts of the NHS and elsewhere too.
We have made significant progress, but there’s still much to do. If you’re a Health and Wellbeing Coach, or if you’re interested in how Health and Wellbeing Coaches can support people to gain more control over their health and live healthier, happier lives, there are a number of ways you can get involved.
